December 23 - Thanks for a Great Year.

To everyone who has supported me over the last year and beyond I offer you my sincere gratitude. Getting this band together has been an awesome experience and there have been MANY reasons it could have failed completely.

There have been many people who said that instrumental music is not relevant today. There have been many people who said that mixing songs and instrumentals - rock, metal and fusion - was only going to confuse people. I know that I am far from alone in dealing with these kinds of people – all of us do in some aspect of our lives. These people have the right to their opinions but only weak people are going to let those opinions become prison bars.

I have managed to find people who would believe in the project and believe in music for its own sake. People who have similar goals in life and are turned on by the same things as I am. Regardless of the pressures of life, it is inspiring that there are people who seek perfection in what they do regardless of material gain. As artists and listeners alike we might not be the majority but we are passionate and approach our music with love and dedication. With discipline and devotion.

Evan and Greg - my brothers in this musical project and great friends as well - have been absolute sources of inspiration and strength for me and will be with me all the way once we get back to gigging again in 2008. We have a few changes coming up and if you like the Steve Turner Trio now, you are going to like it even more in 2008.

Beyond Evan and Greg there have been other people who have helped me out massively along the way. I am not going to list names because I am certain to forget someone and feel terrible for days! You all know who you are and you know also you have my true thanks.

I look forward to seeing those of you who are local over the festive season and to chatting with those further away over the next few months. You know we are going to give you 100% of what we have to offer so keep checking back to www.steveturner.com.au for the most up to date news, songs and whatever else comes up.

Right now there is a new live track (Surfing with the Tsunamian) as well as a demo for a pop rock song (You’d Think) which I wrote a few weeks ago. Check them out – you won’t get a more diverse picture of what I love in music than these two polar opposites.

Be good to yourself and your loved ones and be true to your friends and your music.

Merry Christmas.

Steve.

Surfing With The Tsunamian - LIVE

This live track was recorded at Musicland on the 14th of December 2007. It is considerably faster than the studio version so strap yourselves in... and have a listen!

You'd Think - DEMO

This is a demo of a pop rock song I wrote and recorded in a few easy sessions. It began life as a lone guitar and vocal piece but became a little more intense including a Dan Huff style lead break near the end. This track is a little different from my others and I use my voice in a few ways I had not recorded previously.

NEXT GIG: December 14 - Musicland - FRIDAY 10:30pm

MUSICLAND - 1359a Sydney Rd - Fawkner

Band Lineup - Xistance, Spasticator, Steve Turner Trio.

Once again, ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY.

I am proud to be playing with my True Brothers of Metal in Xistance and Spasticator on Friday the 14th of December.

For those of you who missed the gig at the Central Club last week you missed a great night! Christine from Xistance was also good enough to get up with the Steve Turner Trio and perform harmony vocals for "Not In Kansas Anymore". She did a great job and certainly added a touch of elegance to our somewhat roguish trio.

Christine might not be a Brother of Metal, but she does okay.

Christine from Xistance

September 17 - Two New Gigs Announced

Shredfest II - 26 OCT - Electric Boogaloo

The Steve Turner Trio are playing at Shredfest 2 on the 26th of October. Conrad and I were so happy with the first gig that we decided to do it again with a few different artists helping us ROCK the night away.

My Sworn Brother of Metal - Dave Hargreaves - will be playing material from his debut solo album "Master of Disguise" to kick off the night at 9pm so get there early! If you forget it, you'll regret it...

Musicland - 02 NOV - With Luthor

We are also playing at Musicland in Fawkner on the 2nd of November. This should be a good fun gig on a decent sized stage at a venue that pulls a pretty good sound. Come down and show support for us as well as my friends in metal band Luthor.

What is this guy ON ???

I would like to make it known that this week I entered a new state of METAL revelation! I have been crapping on with Manowar quotes for so long that they have started to slip out into otherwise normal conversation. I have dubbed this state of mind "Joeyspace". So if I seem to be acting strange or not quite normal just turn the fucking music up and pass me a beer. I will be fine!

August 22 -Live Video added to the Media Page

I have uploaded some video files to the MEDIA/VIDEO page. This footage is from the gig on the 17th of August which marked the first live performance of the Steve Turner Trio. We had a great time and thank everyone who came along to watch/hear the show. Thanks also to Conrad from Spasticator for organizing the event and Ermin for mixing in a difficult environment.

I have also purchased and modified a US Fender Stratocaster. It is a 2000 model and was stock when I bought it but has had the following modifications performed: locking tuning heads, ultra jumbo frets, Li'l Screaming Demon in the bridge, YJM pickups in the neck and middle. It was a great guitar to start with but after the modifications it is really, really impressive. There are a few pictures of it under the GEAR page.

August 14 -Video Added to Media Page

I have added a few short video clips to the MEDIA / VIDEO page.

My friend Rob attended a rehearsal with a digital video camera in hand and filmed the entire rehearsal. I have trimmed a few interesting sections and despite the fact the camera microphone is under extreme load they came out pretty well! Take a look by clicking the MEDIA link below.

Don't forget - the Steve Turner Trio is playing at the Barley Corn Hotel on Friday the 17th of August. It should be a really fun show so come down and say hello.

June 19 -First Live Show Announced!

The Stever Turner Band will be playing at the Barley Corn Hotel in Melbourne on Friday the 17th of August.

The other guys on the bill are friends of mine and not to be missed if you are into guitar based rock. Doors open at 9PM and I strongly urge you to be on time to see Peter Hodgson on his turbo charged Ibanez! Peter writes for the Australian street mag Mixdown doing a mix of reviews and instructional material. Conrad and Spasticator play a heavier blend of metal with some very quirky elements and my trio will be on last.

Perfomance times have not been confirmed so please, arrive early! Thanks Conrad for organising this show! Feel free to pimp this flyer image wherever you think is appropriate.

June 17 -Surfing with the Tsunamian - Unmixed - Now Available!

I have loaded a third track into the media player. It is called "Surfing With the Tsunamian" and if Recalibrate the Solar Wind Generators was cold and atmospheric, Tsunamian is in your face, raunchy guitar rock.

The drums and bass are Greg and Evan and the mix is just a quick job to preview the track. Stay tuned for the final mix in the near future.

June 06 -New Song Available - Recalibrate the Solar Wind Generators.

There are currently two songs available in the media player at the bottom left of this site. The newcomer is "Recalibrate the Solar Wind Generators". It features Evan on Chapman Stick, Greg on drums and myself on guitars and synths. It is a King Crimsonesque instrumental with a fairly atmospheric vibe. The track was mixed by Ermz and sounds very spacious and three dimensional.

The trio is progressing through rehearsals nicely. With four rehearsals down we have 7 of the 8 original songs sounding pretty good as well as a certain King Crimson cover coming along nicely. I expect to be doing gigs from August onwards.

Dont forget to shoot me a quick email if you want to be added to the mailing list! The next 2 months are going to be very busy and a lot of my background work is going to become visible and audible.

June 04 -New Website Launched

Those of you who have been here prior to today would pretty quickly realise that this site has undergone massive and sudden changes. I have been fortunate enough to work with Rob Burchett who has created this site for me. I think it reflects the sound and mood I am trying to create in my music which is all anyone can ask for.

The trio is progressing through rehearsals nicely. With four rehearsals down we have 7 of the 8 original songs sounding pretty good as well as a certain King Crimson cover coming along nicely. I expect to be doing gigs from August onwards.

I will be hitting a local studio on the 16th of June to record the final tracks for my three song EP. They will be

1/ Not in Kansas Anymore
2/ Surfing with the Tsunamian
3/ Finding Holes in Rainbows

So, stay tuned because things are going to start happening very visibly in comparison to the last 12 months of undercover operations. If you want to be included on the MAILING LIST please send an email to me via the contact link below. You will receive updates regarding new songs being added as well as any gig news.

April 16 -I AM SO HAPPY!

Why? Things are coming together very nicely. The trio had our first full rehearsal last night and it sounded GREAT. Though not perfect, the rehearsal was far better than I would have dared hope and I don't think it will take too long to get the material up to gig ready levels.

The band is the same as my recording trio - Greg Limberis on drums and Evan Harris on bass. A running joke in the project during recording has been that Greg and Evan have never actually met but it turns out that they have done a couple of gigs in cover bands on the Melbourne scene through various fill in spots. It certainly is a small world!

Greg's kit sounds warm and tight with great playing to match. Evan brought along three different bass instruments - 5 String, Chapman Stick and 12 string (4 groups of three strings much like a 12 string guitar where the strings are tuned to harmonise with each other). More sounds will be added as we progress through rehearsals.

The project will work under my name and we are playing a mix of songs and instrumentals - covers and originals with strong weighting in favour of originals. I am playing and singing simultaneously which is a new skill for me though I have been doing both separately for some time.

On top of this I finally have my main amp rig under control. I am using a Mesa Dual Rectifier head, Soldano snakeskin 4x12 V30 cabinet, midi floor controller, TC Electronics G Major effects processor and an RJM Amp Gizmo which controls the Mesa via midi... Using the Amp Gizmo I can have any of my effects/amp combinations with one midi controller press making my life a lot easier given I need to sing/play already - tap dancing is not a graceful addition to the equation. I am using my Soundworks C ustom and Steinberger GM Pro guitars. Overall the sound is pretty decent.

For those of you who know my music we are planning on doing the following live:

" Finding Holes in Rainbows
" Not in Kansas Anymore
" Surfing with the Tsunamian
" Reality
" Angel 17
" Recalibrate the Solar Wind Generators
" Absolut Duality
" Another Dream

Covers will include Rush and King Crimson songs to be announced at gig time. If you are in a band and I know you be prepared to be hit up for gigs in around June. If you have a spot to offer from June onwards shoot me an email via Steve@steveturner.com.au. The set is going to be quite an interesting mix from straight rock and metal to progressive and fusion sounds. The wheels are definitely turning.

April 10 -Bass Completed

Evan has completed all the bass work for the upcoming CD material. I received the bass lines for Absolut Duality last night and have to say they are extraordinarily good. This means all bass and drums are now complete for the 8 song album which is a bit of a milestone. The final awesome bass and drum tracks wont be available for some time – the version of Absolut Duality currently available on this site is the demo version with my own bass playing included.

April 5 Final Mix

One of my album songs has gone in for final mix and should be ready by the time this site is relaunched. The song is an instrumental called Recalibrate the Solar Wind Generators and is reasonably reminiscent of 80s King Crimson… I hope you guys dig it and can't wait for you to hear Greg and Evan (drums and bass) on this recording.

Live Performance

Firstly I would like to thank everyone who has been asking me to play live of late. The good news is that I have my trio working on doing exactly that. I will be singing and playing guitar. Evan Harris will be on Bass, Chapman Stick and probably synth pedals. Greg Limberis will be playing drums and maybe doing some midi triggers. We will be doing a mix of original songs and instrumentals as well as a few interesting cover tracks. Early rehearsals have been very positive and I will post some media to show how we are going some time very soon.

Web Redesign

Rob Burchett of Perplexion Studios is working on a completely new web site build to support my upcoming EP release. It is looking fantastic and should go live some time in the next week - at least in a mostly finished state.
